About Us

The Michigan Secular Student Alliance was founded in 2006 as a place where non-religious students could gather to express ideas and find community. Our group has grown considerably since then and is the only group for atheist, agnostic and free thinking students on the University of Michigan campus!

Our goals as an organization are to promote critical thinking and secularism, while providing a fun, welcoming community to secular students and giving back to the larger community through service projects. While the group is primarily geared toward atheists, agnostics, and non-theists, we welcome any atheist-friendly person or anyone who would like to see Church and State remain separate.

We are currently affiliated with the Secular Student Alliance, Center for Inquiry on Campus and we are the only Volunteers Beyond Belief team in Michigan. 

What Do We Do?
Everything! Well, sort of. We have a diverse membership, so we try to engage in a variety of activities so that there's something for everyone. Our activities are divided into three categories: activism, community service and social activities. We have sponsored debates, volunteered at Richard Dawkins book talks, helped clean up Detroit neighborhoods, participated in Light the Night, had parties and barbecues, taken trips to the planetarium and had some very interesting discussions. Anyone is welcome to participate.

Weekly Meeting

Winter 2017 meetings will be held in 3314 Mason on Wednesdays from 7-8 pm

These meetings are large, semi-moderated group discussions. There is a scheduled topic and free food provided.
